Today was yet again another early morning, but for a very good reason!! I got a chance to work at the Ballymaloe House kitchen, which is the incredible guest house whose founders created the Ballymaloe Cookery School a couple miles down the road. I started work around 7:30 (and saw a BEAUTIFUL sunrise!!) and ended around 1:30 or so. The woman working in the bakery section had me helping her the whole time, so I got to help her with yeast breads, shortbread cookies, cheese crackers, and I also prepped red, black, and white currants for a fruit compote. Everyone was so accommodating and taught me a lot! I love how they took a break for lunch, where we got to eat all of the food the kitchen had prepared for lunch. The food (and dessert :P) was so well seasoned and delicious!! Afterwards, I got a chance to walk around the grounds before my ride showed up and I took a lot of close-up pictures of plants haha. Here are some of my favorites:
The rest of the day was really fun - I hung out with some of the students for awhile, then went on a LONG RUN!!! :D So far one of the favorite things I've been doing here is the running :) It's a chance for me to get out and explore! This run I decided to go over the hills that surround this little sort of valley we are in, and BOY WHAT A SIGHT!!!!!!!!! I was met with a beautiful landscape of green and golden patchwork! I wish I physically was able to go farther because of all the sights to see, but sadly I had to turn around eventually. Here are the pictures I managed to snag on my iPhone before it died :).
I can't wait to finally sleep in tomorrow! (Or "lay in," as they say here) Hope you like the pictures! Also, thanks for your comments, Lucy and Caroline :D. It makes me so happy that you guys are enjoying the blog! Missing home still but loving it here at the same time!! It's bittersweet!
Until tomorrow,
