What a great day today! I didn't run, but I was able to walk around a lot with my dad and Lucy. I showed them around the school's farm here, and then we had a bite to eat at Stephen Pierce's pottery cafe. I love the shakshuka eggs they make - hummus base, spiced tomato sauce, and poached eggs. I have loved getting the chance to catch up with Dad and Lucy. It's weird to think I haven't seen them in 10 weeks!
After eating, we all went to the Ballymaloe House with Nan to check out the craft fair going on there! What a great union of local artisan producers. There were several people who made food products, wood workers, artists in ceramics, clothing, and painting, and also beauty products. It was great! We also got to talk to Shana Wilkie, the first bean to bar chocolate maker in Ireland in Midleton.
For dinner, we splurged and went to Sage, in Midleton. I absolutely love everything about that place! The decor in the dining room is a combination of rustic and refined, the food has a pristinely fresh and vibrant character, AND everything is within a 12-mile radius. Wow. It's incredible! I think my favorites from the night were the salted cod starter with pickled seaweed and various sauces, and then the finale of poached pear with granola and clotted cream. It was so light, with a wide assortment of texture and flavor.
It's hard to believe yet another week has gone by! I'll be home so soon! Where has the time gone?!
