Today has been pretty good! I somehow seem to have a started the trend of watching documentaries on Sundays now. I woke up and decided to watch one called "Fed Up" that came out last year about childhood obesity in the US. Wow. A major and devastating problem faces our country (and really the world). It's appalling how much of a rise in childhood diabetes there has been since the 1970s (which is when the obesity epidemic really became recognized apparently). Before then, there were no cases, and as of 2010 I think there were around 57,000. It's made me "fed up"! Hah. Nice title. If you have time, I'd recommend you watch it! I found it very educating because it brings you directly into a couple young teens' lives to really feel the impact. What's so frustrating about the whole debacle is that these poor children are really trying to make a change in their diets and lifestyles and yet get very little results!
Lately the thought of what I want to do with my life has been weighing me down a bit. This food/obesity crisis has definitely lit a spark in me and makes me want to make a difference in some way. Now the question is, what major do I want to pursue?
After sitting around for awhile, I decided to go run and explore. I found an ancient graveyard on the way to the beach :). It seemed like all of the ghosts had gone to bed after partying it up last night for Halloween!
I also found a lovely café inside of the Stephen Pearce Pottery center! I've had a hankering to sit in a café and read or something, so maybe I'll do that next weekend :D.

When I made it to the beach, the tide was completely out!!!! I was able to walk really far out on the shore and look at the tidal pools (if that's what they're called). It reminds me a lot of the Maine coast :). Here are some of the shots I got while I wandered around the shoreline.
I found a sea anemone!! Can you see it in the first picture?
Here's my view from the beach!!! Today has been a rather dreary day, so it's tough to see the Ballycotton lighthouse.
This was an intricately patterned periwinkle I found! It's amazing what kinds of designs nature creates :).
I wanted to show a picture of one of the trees I saw by the church before I turn to go to the cookery school. Seeing a maple tree like that really reminds me of home because we have so many around us that change color in the fall.
I haven't really done a whole lot else since the run! For dinner I cooked up a pumpkin with sage and rosemary from the garden, which tasted delicious!! We roasted some of the seeds too! Nan and I also grilled a bit of chicken we'd filleted last week :). Today I have been dehydrating nuts too, so that's been fun! I finished my first batch of pecans yesterday, then did some walnuts and then another of batch of pecans today! All good fun!
And now yet another weekend has come to an end. Where on earth is the time going!? I decided to check when I need to schedule classes for next semester tonight, and crazy enough my appointment is on SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!! AHHHH!!!! I need to figure out which classes I need to take! OH MY GOSH. It'll work out though, one way or another. I'm really thankful Nan was there when I freaked out a bit - she's been helping me talk through various ideas, major-wise. Maybe I will stick to Dietetics? I don't know! I'm realizing now that what really interests me is learning about the chemistry of our bodies and also how food plays a role, so dietetics might not be a bad path after all. I don't know. I guess I don't need to have my life figured out at this point, but it's still daunting.
I hope everyone has had a marvelous Hallo-weekend!! Can you believe it's already November!? I'm almost going to be home! Sending big hugs and kisses back home! :D
