Today's been a blast despite the fact that I'm exhausted. Oh well! I ended up going on a long run after I woke up because I wanted to see how long it would take to run a loop to the Ballymaloe house. I didn't realize it would be so far! It was actually quite a nice run though! The weather is getting cooler, and it feels like there's a nip in the air. There's also been a lot of potato harvesting lately, so the roads have a lot of mud on them. Check out this one potato field - for some reason there were a TON of seagulls flying around the tractor as it was moving (they're the tiny white specks in front of the tractor).
After the run, I went to Saturday Pizzas and got a gluten free pizza with half pumpkin purée, gruyere, tomatoes and marjoram. The other half was pork shoulder, thyme, and garlic aioli. It was delicious!! I love going to Saturday Pizza because Phillip always creates topping combinations I've never seen before!

After pizza, I went to Jordan Bourke's cooking demonstration. He went to Ballymaloe in 2010 and has since then made a name for himself! His latest endeavor has been in Korean food (which makes sense because he's married to a Korean woman). All of the food was incredible! My favorites were kimchi pancakes, kimchi and something called bibimbap ("mixed rice"). The traditional way of making kimchi is a lot different than how I've seen it. Instead of adding spices to shredded cabbage, you keep the head of cabbage intact and rub it with salt, then stuff it with a mix of various Korean spices, radish, onions, and glutinous rice paste (which doesn't have gluten, it's just really gluey). It was really really really good!! I can't wait to make it when I get home!
For dinner, I went to a restaurant called "Farmgate" in Midleton with Nan's family. It was so sweet of them to take me! The food was absolutely incredible! Nan and I shared a hazelnut, fig, and mint salad and tomato soup, then I got a monkfish dish. They served a big plate of gorgeous vegetables too!! Roasted parsnip, red onion, carrots, and broccolini (which our waitress thought were asparagus...!) I'd say the highlights were Nan's risotto (feta, tomato, pesto) and dessert. We got a lemon syllabub (some sort of pudding), chocolate hazelnut and caramel tart, chocolate brownie with ice cream, and Hal got a cheesecake (he didn't want to share :).). It was great fun!
They didn't want to pose for a picture, so I took an action shot :). After dinner we all played bananagrams! We had so much fun! They're all really good at it hah so I didn't have a chance.
I was too tired to write last night so I had to do it this morning. I have GOT to get more sleep. Hope y'all are having a great weekend!!! How is it already getting to be the middle of October?
